OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Urban Teachers offers three in-demand content-area specialties (this is site dependent). Each specialty, which we refer to as a “program of study”, determines the focus of a participant’s graduate coursework (through year two) & teaching certification (through year three). They are: Elementary Education, Secondary Literacy, and Secondary Mathematics.
In addition to earning a M.A.T. degree & teaching certification in this content-area specialty, participants also earn their degree & teaching certification in Special Education, as well as in English as a Second Language or ESL (for Dallas/Fort Worth participants only; participants in other sites receive site-level ESL/ELL training & professional development).
There may be additional requirements for the Secondary Literacy and Secondary Math placements, such as a college credit review, brief content knowledge assessment, and/or fulfilling state entrance exam requirements. There are no such requirements for the Elementary Education placement.
