All school selection, hiring, and transfer decisions must be approved by the Site Team. If a participant’s safety is at risk or compromised, if they are required to participate in improper activities at the school site, or if they are consistently unable to complete Urban Teachers’ program requirements related to coursework or coaching in their school site, the participant should contact their designated site Director immediately. In all other circumstances, a participant may submit a school transfer request to Urban Teachers for the coming school year. Urban Teachers will only support school transfers in accordance with district/CMO policies and requirements and the Urban Teachers school transfer request process. In Baltimore City Public Schools, for example, non-tenured teachers are ineligible for voluntary transfer. Participants should contact their designated site Director for information about this process.
Urban Teachers retains sole and absolute discretion regarding whether to approve a school transfer request. School transfers are the exception and not the rule, and, accordingly, Urban Teachers has generally only granted transfers in extraordinary circumstances and where it is in accordance with district/CMO policies and requirements. For example, and without limitation, Urban Teachers may approve a school transfer if the participant’s health or safety will be at risk or compromised in their current school or the participant’s current school position will make it objectively impossible for the participant to complete Urban Teachers program requirements related to coursework or coaching.
Participants who resign from their school and accept employment at another school site without written approval from their site Executive Director or Director are subject to automatic dismissal from the Urban Teachers program.
