All Urban Teachers participants are responsible for their tuition, cost of living expenses, materials, and technology – all of which can be covered with the assistance of federal or private student loans or funds.
There are also a number of out-of-pocket expenses that participants must plan for during their Urban Teachers commitment. Participants are expected to meet any deadlines associated with these expenses.

- TB Test: Free option(s) may be available (Site Team will notify participants of location); otherwise, $35-$59.
- Praxis® fees for Resident Teacher Certificate (RTC): subject area test(s) (typically ranges from $130 to $209 per test) and special education test (typically $130)
- Praxis® fees for Standard Professional Certificate (SPC): edTPA assessment (typically $300) and Teaching Reading: Elementary (TRE) test for Special Education certification (typically $156)

- Praxis® fees for Standard Teacher Credential/Regular II Teacher License: Principles of Learning & Teaching (PLT) test (typically $146)
- Licensure Fees: typically $100 ($50 per certification area)

- Fingerprinting/Background Check: approximately $37.75 (Morpho Trust application fee) + $10 (mandatory scanning of fingerprints fee) to meet TEA requirements. School districts or CMOs may have additional requirements, and any related fees are also the responsibility of the participant.
- Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation: $50 (only for participants who have concerns about their ability to pass a national criminal history check)
- Transcripts: Cost varies
- TExES™ examinations fees for Initial Certification: Content eaxm (typically $118.87), Special Education (typically $118.87), English as a Second Language (typically $118.87), and the Science of Teaching Reading for certification in Core Subjects EC-6 and ELA 4-8 only (typically $136) Note: only four retakes of a failed exam are allowed, and each retake requires the full examination fee
- edTPA portfolio submission: $311
- Certification Fees: $78 each for the Intern, Probationary, and Standard Certificates
