Urban Teachers was founded in 2009 to solve a critical challenge in urban education: new teacher quality. We began in two of the highest-need districts in the nation: Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. The Dallas/Fort Worth site opened with its first cohort in 2016. The Urban Teachers national office is located in Baltimore, MD and supports all three of its city sites. Each city site has local offices and a Site Team that works directly with the residents and fellows in their region. Contact information for the National Team and the three city Site Teams is located on the Urban Teachers website.
The Urban Teachers Site Team is defined as all of the employees who support participants during their progression in the program (Executive Director, Director of Clinical Faculty, Assistant Directors, Resident Experience Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, Data Coordinator or Certification Officer, Lead Clinical Faculty, Clinical Faculty, and Coaches).
Participants can expect Urban Teachers’ Site Team support throughout the four-year commitment. Urban Teachers’ goal is to create teachers who are confident and capable in their craft – effective teachers who respond knowledgeably and flexibly to the ever-changing needs of their students.
Supports include, but are not limited to, both evaluative and non-evaluative coaching visits, real-time coaching, scheduled or standing check-ins, site visits from other members of the City Team, office hours, Saturday workshops, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and Sensemaking sessions.
Please do not hesitate to contact the appropriate Urban Teachers staff member – questions, concerns, and feedback are always important to us. Addressing concerns or questions as soon as they arise is always the goal.
