Urban Teachers recommends that all applicants complete a FAFSA Form to cover the tuition costs for the program. Urban Teachers participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the TEACH grant and Federal Loan Forgiveness (which requires two additional years of teaching after your Urban Teachers commitment). If you have prior student loans, these loans can also be put into forbearance for the first two years of the program. If you have a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, you can also use that towards the cost of Urban Teachers’ program. Participants to our program also have the opportunity to earn up to two Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards during the first two years of the program (worth approximately $11,000). Apply for Federal Aid: Complete a FAFSA Form starting January 1, 2018 for the academic year that starts in June 2018. Please indicate you will be attending the graduate/professional program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education using their code: E00475. Contact us for more information about the credits you will be taking.
Seek a private loan from a commercial bank: This could be an option for individuals who have an existing relationship and established credit with a private financial institution. Interested individuals should apply directly to that institution. If you apply for a private education loan, use your acceptance letter for your application.
