Urban Teachers uses an electronic recommendation form only (no personally written letters) to capture specific information about each applicant's candidacy. This information may be shared with our graduate university partner's admissions office, regional Site Teams, and school partners, to avoid our participants having to gather recommendations multiple times as they apply to and join our program.
We ask applicants to provide the names and contact information for two recommenders who we can contact about their candidacy for the Urban Teachers program. Once you submit the names and contact information for your recommenders, we will reach out to them with a recommendation form and some context about Urban Teachers, so we recommend that you contact your recommenders before you get to this stage about your Urban Teachers application. Our request is that recommenders complete this form within two weeks of receiving it.
These recommenders should be individuals who have supervised you or evaluated your work or academics within the past five years and can speak to your relationship building, communication, organization, and problem solving skills. For example, this could include a former manager or supervisor, professor, advisor, coach, or program leader. If you currently work in schools with K-12 students, please include at least one person from your current or a former school in a supervisory position who is familiar with your work. Please do not include family members or friends as your recommenders.
