Urban Teachers’ application deadlines for Cohort 2020 are September 9, October 15, November 19, December 20, January 27, February 24, March 23, and April 20. Your online application must be submitted online via Urban Teachers’ application on or before an application deadline (11:59 P.M. EST) to be considered complete.

Overview of Our Process
1. Complete the initial online information.
2. Wait 2-10 days for the application to be reviewed.
3. If your application is approved, you continue on in our process via an email invitation to complete a Digital Performance Task (DPT) and/or attend a Final Interview Day (FID).
4. While you wait for your application to be reviewed at any of the above stages, log into your account and complete the essay (required by the Johns Hopkins University School of Education), upload transcript(s) from degree-granting undergraduate university, provide us with names and email addresses of your two recommenders and complete the JHU application.
How to Apply

The application is completed in stages and is typically completed in only one day, however, many applicants complete it in 30-45 minutes! Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so applicants will typically be notified about next steps within 2-10 days after submitting their application. However, following an application deadline, the review time could take up to two weeks so make every effort to get your application completed prior to the actual deadline date! The application collects general information about your academic, professional, volunteer, and leadership experience. It is VERY important that you complete the "Activities/Experiences" section of your application. You will also preference a city and program of study during the online application, but do note that this can be changed at any point during the application process by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
If this initial application is approved, you will then be asked to begin the JHU "pre-enrollment" process by completing the Johns Hopkins University application, uploading the names of two recommenders, a transcript (can be unofficial) from the institution that did/will confer your undergraduate degree, and submitting one brief essay (350-650 words). The essay is required by the Johns Hopkins University School of Education so make certain your essay is free of grammatical/punctuation errors and answers the essay question completely. Keep in mind, the essay will weigh heavily for your acceptance into the Johns Hopkins University School of Education.
How to Complete a Succesful Application
Urban Teachers is a welcoming and inclusive community. We are consciously working to find ways to value experiences and identities that are often minimized or devalued. We encourage you to include a broad array of your experiences as support for your application. We are particularly looking for any experiences working with children (especially in under-resourced communities), leadership, work/volunteer experience(s) (paid or unpaid) or long-term commitments (over one and a half years). Urban Teachers requests both your resume and list of experiences to get to know you better and provide a stronger application. (Listing prior experiences is a good way to score higher at application review.) It is also important to include your demographic information, group memberships, languages (and proficiency) and criminal, academic and employment disclosures. We want to get to know you better!
Applying early to our program in the recruitment year (which runs Fall 2019-Spring 2020) is encouraged as there are only a limited number of spots for Cohort 2020, with specific numbers of slots reserved for each program of study (Elementary, Secondary Literacy and Secondary Mathematics) in each city. School partner needs determine the number and types of slots in each city and it is best to apply early to secure your spot in the city and program of study preference.
Early Decision Applicants
Unlike an early application, Early Decision is a program specifically for college juniors or persons who already have a prior commitment and cannot start until June 2021. Juniors in college may apply as long as they are scheduled to graduate by June 2021. Applicants follow the standard application process through Urban Teachers’ online application and go through the Urban Teachers’ selection process with regular decision applicants. If you receive an offer, you will be able to join Urban Teachers’ cohort in June 2021 provided you graduate in time, with the required GPA and pass the required pre-professional standardized tests. Accepted Early Decision candidates will not be required to fully enroll with the Johns Hopkins University or register for any required state testing exams until February of 2021.
Withdrawing an Application
If you wish to withdraw an application or email opt-out from Urban Teachers, just contact Admissions at email@example.com to request your application be withdrawn. Every year we strive to make the application process and program better. Therefore, if you decide to withdraw your application, it would be very helpful for Urban Teachers to know your reason for withdrawing so please include that information in your email to us. We may also send you a survey to complete.
