Application Process

The application for the 2023 Cohort is now closed. If you are interested in joining our program in June 2024, the application will open this August.

In the meantime, please indicate your interest via this brief form, and we'll be in touch with you over the summer about upcoming events and ways to engage with Urban Teachers!

How to Apply

Click here to start your application to Urban Teachers. We highly suggest you visit the website first to learn more about our program (http://www.urbanteachers.org). The application typically takes less than one hour to complete, and is your opportunity to share more about your prior experiences and interest in Urban Teachers. During the application process, you will need to upload a resume, answer more general questions about your experience and education, and respond to short answer questions about your interest in the Urban Teachers program.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so applicants will typically be notified about next steps within 10 days of submitting their application.

Receiving an Offer

Applicants who receive an offer will have up to two weeks to sign a Letter of Intent indicating their plans to join the 2023 Urban Teachers Cohort. Once an applicant accepts their offer, they will need to submit any information needed to enroll with our graduate school partner and complete required entrance exams.

Each offer is associated with a specific region, and applicants will have the opportunity to connect with staff members and participants from their region as they consider their offer. 

Applying Early

We encourage applicants who feel confident about applying to Urban Teachers to apply early in the season (which runs from mid-August 2022 into April 2023), as there are a limited number of slots reserved for each program of study (Elementary, Secondary Literacy and Secondary Mathematics) in each city. The needs of our school partners determine the number of slots and types of slots in each city, and applicants who apply earlier in the year are more likely to receive their top choice preferences for location and program of study.

Early Admission Applicants

Urban Teachers offers Early Admission to college juniors or co-terming seniors who will graduate between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. Early Admission applicants follow the standard application process, including the same Urban Teachers’ online application and selection process, but are given a deferred offer for our 2024 Cohort. Applicants who receive an Early Admission offer will have an additional year to pass their required state exams and engage with Urban Teachers. They will automatically be able to join our 2024 Cohort (starting in June 2024), as long as they maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 and complete all required state exams.

Withdrawing Your Application

If you wish to withdraw your application or opt-out of Urban Teachers emails, please contact Admissions at admissions@urbanteachers.org to request that your application be withdrawn. Every year, we strive to make the application process and program better. Therefore, if you decide to withdraw your application, we request that you include your reasons for withdrawing so Urban Teachers can continue to improve. We may also send you a survey to complete.
