Our Core Competencies

Urban Teachers is highly selective. The children we serve deserve excellent teachers, and it is our commitment to provide them. Urban Teachers looks for seven core competencies in order to determine if candidates are aligned with our program.

Bachelor's Degree

A conferred undergraduate degree is required by the start of our Summer Institute (June 2023). You must have a Bachelor's Degree, in any subject, to be eligible to begin the Urban Teachers program.  Early Decisions candidates must have a conferred degree by June 2024.

GPA

Urban Teachers seeks a 2.5-4.0 GPA from one’s undergraduate institution (the school that will/did confer your degree). 

To strengthen your application, it is very important that you provide responses to ALL the questions in the application, and especially the "Experiences" section of the application so we can learn more about your background, including experience in both paid and volunteer activities, length of time in each activity, and if the activities were in communities similar to those we serve.

The GPA eligibility requirement is based on the applicant’s undergraduate institution GPA ONLY; other higher education GPAs (i.e. graduate school) are NOT used to determine eligibility.
