Bachelor's Degree
A conferred undergraduate degree is required by the start of our Summer Institute (June 2020). You must have a Bachelor's Degree, in any subject, to be eligible to begin the Urban Teachers program.
GPA
Urban Teachers seeks a 3.0 GPA from one’s undergraduate institution (the school that will/did confer your degree). There are several exceptions to the GPA requirement.
If your GPA is below 3.0, don't panic! Urban Teachers accepts a GPA of 2.75-2.99 for highly qualified candidates. For instance, applicants with extensive work with children, strong leadership, STEM majors and (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or experience working in a STEM environment may still be accepted into our program.
If your GPA is between 2.5-2.74, you can still apply but we are looking for you to have exceptional experience. This means you have STEM experience (either as a major or in your work experience), or can demonstrate considerable improvement academically over the last two years of your undergraduate coursework. In addition, Urban Teachers occasionally accepts an applicant who is currently employed as a paraprofessional by one of our school partners and is recommended by them, even if their GPA is 2.5-2.74.
You will need to complete our online application, a digital performance task, and attend a final interview day to get accepted. It is very important that you provide responses to ALL the questions in the application, and especially the "Activities" section of the application so we can learn more about your background, including experience in both paid and volunteer activities, leadership opportunities and length of time in each activity.
If you are unsure if you are eligible, please contact Admissions at admissions@urbanteachers.org.
Eligibility is based on the applicant’s undergraduate institution GPA ONLY; other higher education GPAs (i.e. graduate school) are NOT used to determine eligibility.
